Lady Lion volleyball splits with Hillsboro

It was the second set of Frontier Athletic Conference contests in three days on Thursday, Aug. 29 as the Washington Lady Lions (1-5, 0-1 FAC) hosted Hillsboro (6-0, 1-0 FAC) for j-v and varsity volleyball action.

The Lady Indians would win the varsity match in three sets, while the Lady Lions won the j-v match in three sets.

At the j-v level, Washington won set one 25-21, lost set two 25-17 and won set three 25-10.

At the varsity level, Hillsboro won 25-13, 25-10 and 25-22.

In the third set, Washington led for most of the time. After leading 20-17, Hillsboro rallied for seven straight points to take a 24-20 lead. Washington would cut it to 24-22, but the Lady Indians were able to get the match-winning point on the next serve.

Statistically for the Lady Lions, Maggi Wall and Scotti Quigley each had two aces and Aysha Haney had one.

Ava Hines led in kills with six, followed by Quigley and Peyton Hughes each with three, Wall with two and Iyanna Brown with one.

Anna Tackage led in set assists with seven, followed by Haney with six.

Hughes led in solo blocks with four, followed by Quigley with one.

Wall led in digs with 13, followed by Alora Self with 12, Quigley with nine, Haney and Brown with two and Tackage with one.

Washington (1-6, 0-2 FAC) will look to get back in the winning column on Tuesday, Sept. 3 when they host East Clinton (4-2, 4-0 SBAAC).

Hillsboro (7-0, 2-0 FAC) will try to stay unbeaten as they take a long break for the Highland County Fair before hosting Jackson (0-5, 0-1 FAC) on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
