Leaves are falling, books are calling! September is Library Card Sign-up month at Carnegie Public Library! It is the perfect time to get a new library card and start checking out books for the cozy fall season. While you are getting your new library card, be sure to check out our Scarecrow family display at the adult circulation desk.

Our annual Scarecrow Book Sale will take place Wednesday, Sept. 18 through Saturday, Sept. 21. Peruse a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction books, children’s books, and DVDs. All items are just $1! The Carnegie Public Library will begin accepting donations for the upcoming Scarecrow Book Sale on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Your donations of new and gently used books, music CDs, and DVDs may be dropped off in the parking lot lobby during normal operating hours. The library partners with AAUW for this annual sale, and all proceeds from the sale will benefit the library’s general fund and AAUW’s local scholarship fund. The sale begins with Preview Day on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. The admission price for Preview Day is $3. The sale continues, with free admission, on Thursday, Sept. 19, and Friday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Bargain Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Come fill a bag of books for just $2!

Coming up, the library will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2 for Labor Day.

Our monthly Crafternoon meeting is Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. On Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m., join us for Yoga in the Garden! Librarian and certified yoga instructor Averie will teach you yoga poses you can easily reproduce at home. Bring water and wear comfortable clothing. In the event of rain, we will move our practice inside. Then, on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. is Bring Your Own Book Club! Readers are invited to discuss books, old and new, and share recommendations.

New program alert! Only Murders in the Library, a true crime podcast discussion group, will meet on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 12 p.m. Join fellow podcast enthusiasts at the library once a month to discuss the genre as we make our way through different shows. Like a book club but for podcasts, you’ll listen to the assigned episodes for the month at home and then meet at the library to discuss the crime, the podcast, and everything in-between. For our inaugural meeting, we’ll be listening to Paper Ghosts: Season Two, a podcast about a 43-year-old Ohio cold case hosted by M. William Phelps for iHeartMedia. You can listen to the podcast on Spotify, Apple podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Coming up for children, weekly storytimes will resume in September! Meet Ms. Bonnie in Jeffersonville at the Jeffersonville United Methodist Church each Tuesday at 11 a.m. for Bonnie’s Books! This storytime, for ages birth to 5 and siblings, enjoys books, songs, fingerplays, crafts, and fun! On Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., join Ms. Raina at the library for Little Wigglers! This storytime is for ages birth to 3 years old, and incorporates music, rhyming, and reading designed for babies and toddlers. Finally, Mr. Aaron hosts Hello, Friends preschool storytime each Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the library. This storytime is for ages 3 and up, and includes books, music, games, and more.

As always, unless noted, all library programs are free.

24/7 Pick-Up Lockers, library book return, and our online resources are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Information about all of our resources can be found on the library’s website, www.cplwcho.org, or by calling the library at 740-335-2540. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @cplwcho.
