Miami Trace volleyball sweeps Chillicothe

The Miami Trace High School varsity volleyball team continued its defense of back-to-back Frontier Athletic Conference championships when it hosted the Cavaliers of Chillicothe High School Thursday, Aug. 29.

Miami Trace won the varsity match in three sets, 25-15, 25-23 and 25-11.

It was a team win.

It’s one of many clichés in the world of sports, but this was a prime example, according to Miami Trace head coach, Doug Mace.

“As far as our play, our whole team played well together,” Mace said. “Everybody was doing their jobs; they were all moving the whole time. We kept a lot of balls from hitting the floor.

“We were successful in our attacks a lot of times,” Mace said. “That one, for us, was a team win. Every one of the kids were stepping up and doing the things they needed to do and it was really fun to watch.

“(Chillicothe) made some adjustments in the second set,” Mace said. “It took us a little while to kind of figure out what they were doing so we could re-adjust. They’re a good team, a good group of kids. They’re big and they’re strong and they’re going to keep getting better.

“Their setter is new this year and they have a couple of people who are getting in the swing of things,” Mace said. “I expect them to be a little bit stronger and a little bit better the next time we play them (on Sept. 24).

“It’ll be a challenge,” Mace said. “They showed they could play with us and they’ll be at (their school). It’ll be a fun match. I’m looking forward to it.”

Addyson Butts led Miami Trace with 20 kills.

Lauren Farrens had nine kills, Lauren Guess had seven, and Cecilia Robinson, Ellie Robinette and Kylie Yeazel each had one kill.

Sydney Carter led Miami Trace with 16 digs and Robinson had 15. Allison Carter had 11 digs, Lauren Farrens had eight and Yeazel had five. Robinette and Butts each had one.

Farrens led Miami Trace with three ace serves. Guess had two ace serves, Allison Carter had two, Robinson had one, as did Yeazel and Sydney Carter.

Miami Trace won the freshman match in two sets, 25-23, 25-21.

The Lady Panthers won the junior-varsity match, also in straight sets, 25-16 and 25-18.

Miami Trace is now 2-0 in the FAC, 4-0 overall.
