Western Brown defeats Blue Lions, 56-22

The Washington Blue Lions played their first home football game of the season Friday, welcoming the Broncos of Western Brown.

The Broncos improved to 2-0 on the season with a 56-22 victory.

Turnovers and penalties were hurtful for the Blue Lions.

Washington turned the ball over seven times (four interceptions and three lost fumbles) to two for Western Brown.

The Blue Lions were penalized 14 times for 105 yards.

Sophomore Aden Osborne scored all three of Washington’s touchdowns.

It was 21-0 when Osborne returned a kickoff for 85 yards (unofficially) at the 9:20 mark of the second quarter.

Junior Andrew Young ran in the two-point conversion to put the score at 21-8.

Western Brown took a 35-7 lead before senior quarterback Gavin Coffman completed a 34-yard pass to Osborne for a touchdown with 1:58 to play in the half.

Coffman ran the conversion in to make it 35-16.

The Broncos scored on a 26-yard pass soon thereafter. The extra-point kick gave them a 42-16 which was the score at the half.

Early in the third quarter, Osborne had an interception that he returned, unofficially, for 35 yards and a touchdown at the 11:31 mark of the third quarter.

Washington went for two and Young ran the ball in for the conversion. However, that score was nullified by a penalty.

It remained 42-22 at the end of the third quarter.

Washington played much better, defensively, in the second half.

Blue Lion junior Javin Baker had an interception at the nine minute mark of the fourth quarter.

Washington turned the ball over with a lost fumble at its own 11-yard line.

Western Brown soon scored to make it 49-22.

After another Washington turnover, the Broncos scored with 4:50 to play in the game, putting the final at 56-22.

A look at the unofficial statistics, Washington ran the ball seven times for 18 yards

In passing for the Blue Lions, Gavin Coffman completed 9 of 17 passes for 91 yards.

Sam Pfeifer came in late in the game and completed 3 of 4 passes for 16 yards.

Aden Osborne had three catches for 45 yards.

Senior Jakob Hoosier had four receptions for 40 yards.

Washington had five first downs.

Western Brown had 88 yards rushing.

Passing is the main thrust of their offense and senior quarterback Brady Sutton completed 31 of 50 passes for 297 yards.

The Broncos had 14 first downs and were penalized eight times for 70 yards.

Western Brown had 385 yards of total offense to 88 for the Blue Lions.

Washington (0-2) hosts Franklin next Friday.

The Franklin Wildcats fell to 1-1 with a 49-0 loss to the now 2-0 Marion Local Flyers.
