What’s happening at Carnegie Library?

September is library card sign-up month! Celebrate with Carnegie Public Library and the American Library Association! We’re inviting you to join one of the nearly 8,000 library card holders in Fayette County and discover the incredible resources and opportunities available at your local library by signing up for a library card.

This year, we’re thrilled to have Optimus Prime from the “Transformers” as our special ambassador, highlighting that there’s more than meets the eye at your local library. Whether you’re looking to enhance your skills, find valuable information, or connect with fellow avid readers, a library card unlocks a world of possibilities!

Readers, join the next Reading Challenge in the Beanstack app: Books & Brushstrokes. Help us reach our community-wide goal of reading more than 7,500 books by the end of the year! Need more information about the Beanstack app? Stop by the library with your device and chat with one of our friendly librarians. While you are here, ask about other library apps: Hoopla, Libby, and the SEO Libraries App. Each with a unique purpose, but all created to provide you with reading and entertainment content for free!

Adults: Stop in Saturday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. for “Crafternoon!” Bring your own craft project to work on while mingling with other local crafters! Some craft supplies, including our sewing machine, will be available for use during Crafternoon. Then, on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m., enjoy Yoga in the Garden! Librarian and certified yoga instructor Averie will teach yoga poses you can easily reproduce at home. Bring water and wear comfortable clothing. In the event of rain, we will move our practice inside.

For children and families: Join us for storytime! Preschool aged children and their siblings are invited to “Bonnie’s Books” in Jeffersonville on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Children will listen to a story, make a craft, play, and socialize. This program is held at Jeffersonville United Methodist Church. Then, each Thursday at 10:30 a.m., in the library meeting room, Miss Raina leads “Little Wigglers” storytime. This storytime is for our youngest patrons and includes music, rhyming, and reading and is designed for babies and toddlers ages birth to 3. And, on Fridays at 10:30 a.m., Mr. Aaron hosts Hello, Friends! This preschool storytime includes books, music, games, and more. For preschoolers ages 3 and up Home School Library Day takes place each Wednesday at 1 p.m. This program is for children ages 5-12, and their families. On Home School Day, the library is yours! Librarians will provide an activity or program each week focusing on STEM, Art, Books, and more. This is a great opportunity to network with other homeschool students and families.

Coming up for kids: On Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m., children in grades K-4 are invited to a NASA STEM event! Join us for Kids Virtual Event Solar System Exploration. Participants will hear from NASA Scientists in a virtual meeting, then use what they learn to create a Solar System project! For adults: Also happening on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11:00 a.m., is the BYOB Book Club! Have you always wanted to join a book club but couldn’t commit or are tired of assigned reads? This casual book club is for you! This is a book club with a twist; readers are invited to discuss books, old and new, and share recommendations.

All programs are free unless otherwise noted. Some programs require registration. For details about the reading challenge or any of the fun programs, please visit us at the library or give us a call at 740.335.2540.
