Astralis presents classical concert

Four classically-trained, globe-traveling musicians performed Saturday night, Sept. 14, 2024, in the spectacular setting of Washington C.H.’s First Presbyterian Church. The award-winning members of Astralis Chamber Ensemble presented a flawless program of lesser-known works by baroque music’s GOATs (“Greatest of All Time”): geniuses like Bach, Handel, Telemann, Vivaldi. Their appearance, which was their fourth here, was supported by the Perse Harlow Trust, one of the funds administered by the Fayette County Charitable Foundation, of which First Presbyterian organist David Penwell is an officer.

A half-dozen local students of Washington High School business teacher David Penwell remained after last Saturday’s classical concert to pose with the four musicians from the Astralis Chamber Ensemble. Shown are (from left) harpsichordist Dr. Alexandra Dunbar, flutist and co-founder of the Astralis Chamber Ensemble Angela Massey, Mia Koutz, Faith Newsome, Olivia Huston, Evie Wiseman, cellist Dr. Laura Usiskin, Ryley Wiseman, David Penwell, Killian Catto and violinist Yu-Ming (Andrew) Ma.
