HILLSBORO — The Miami Trace High School boys soccer team visited Hillsboro for a Frontier Athletic Conference match Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The match was tied 1-1 at the half, but it was all Hillsboro in the second half as the Indians took the win, 5-1.

Hillsboro scored the opening goal of the match with 31:45 to play.

The Panthers tied the score on a header by Sinjin Smith. The assist on that goal was from Landon Burns. That goal came at the 15:19 mark of the first half.

Hillsboro scored four goals in the second half at the following times: 28:23, 21:50, 13:07 and 3:55.

Wesley Bailey scored three goals for Hillsboro, Austin Bledsoe scored one and Judah Brandyberry.

“Hillsboro is a good team,” Miami Trace head coach Josh Thoroman said. “They took a one goal loss to Wilmington and a one goal loss to Lynchburg. They lost to Chillicothe twice and split with Jackson.

“We were a little bit asleep until they scored,” Thoroman said. “We got the equalizer and we played really, really well.

“In the second half it kind of got away from us,” Thoroman said.

With the result, Miami Trace fell to 7-7-1 overall, 2-6 in the FAC.

Hillsboro defeated McClain 4-0 on Thursday, Oct. 3 and Chillicothe won the FAC, going 8-0 with a 6-1 win over Jackson Thursday.

Hillsboro and Jackson tied for second place in the FAC, each at 5-3.

Washington High School did not have a team this season and McClain went 0-8 in conference play. The Tigers are 2-10 overall.

Chillicothe is 12-3 overall and Hillsboro and Jackson are both 10-5 overall.

The tournament drawing is this weekend.
