WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — The Fayette County & Communities Thoroughfare Plan steering committee met to review draft plans, recommendations and guidelines for future roadway development plans for traffic in the county. The purpose was to review data and analysis of possible capital improvements that might be needed for growth in the county.

The methodology was to identify key corridors and intersections that are or will become problematic, such as safety concerns or heavy traffic areas.

The engineering consulting firm of Burgess & Niple, of Columbus, held this fourth meeting in Fayette County to review SR 734, SR 435, SR 729, Court Street/Washington Avenue, Palmer Road/Old US 35, SR 41/State Street and others.

Routes into and out of the county, such as US 22, US 62, SR 41, and US 35 were considered. The intersection at the point of Leesburg Avenue, Route 22, where it meets Route 62 and Route 41 near Kroger, was especially discussed.

More input and ideas were given by attendees, and a final plan and recommendations will be forthcoming at a later date. The items discussed were possible traffic signals, roundabouts, safety issues, prioritizing heavy traffic areas, the impacts on residential areas, and more. Traffic studies and crash reports, along with impact needs, will also be studied before the final plan is presented, according to the engineering consultants.
