Miami Trace advances in tournament with 3-0 win over Chillicothe

It was the third meeting of the 2024 season between Miami Trace and Chillicothe when the two schools’ volleyball teams faced off in the Division III tournament Monday, Oct. 14 at Miami Trace High School.

Miami Trace won both regular season meetings with the Cavaliers on their way to a 10-0 record for the third year in a row in the Frontier Athletic Conference.

Miami Trace was 21-1 going in and was ranked No. 15 in the State by voters in the coaches’ poll.

Chillicothe entered the match with a record of 13-9. Chillicothe was riding a five-match win streak coming into the tournament.

Miami Trace snapped a three-game losing streak in tournament play with a 3-0 win.

Miami Trace won the first set, 25-20.

This one was very close, with the score tied 12 times before Miami Trace could pull out the win.

In the second set, the score was tied just three times and again Miami Trace won, 25-20.

The Panthers put away the match with a 25-18 win in set number three.

Miami Trace had lost in the first round of the postseason tournament three years in a row.

Miami Trace has now won eight matches in a row.

The Panthers defeated Chillicothe in three sets back on Aug. 29. That was a home match for Miami Trace.

Miami Trace won at Chillicothe on Sept. 24, three sets to one.

The previous tournament victory for Miami Trace came on Oct. 24, 2020, a 3-0 win over Jackson.

The Panthers (a school record best 22-1) travel to Sheridan to take on the No. 2 seed Generals Thursday, Oct. 17. The match has a starting time of 7 p.m.

Sheridan is 19-3 on the season and has won 13 matches in a row.
