EMS runs discussed at commissioners meeting

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, OHIO — At the Fayette County Commissioners meeting Monday, Rod List, director of the Fayette County Life Squad EMS District, discussed the September run report.

The report shows 410 ambulance runs in September, making the number 3,603 so far in 2024. This number is up from 3,314 at this time in 2023.

The average response time from dispatch to en-route is one minute and 46 seconds, and the average on-scene time is six minutes and 47 seconds (time in route).

There were four helicopter transports, 278 patients went to Adena Fayette Medical Center, and one each to Greenfield, Adena Chillicothe, and Jamestown, due to geographical location of the patient.

List explained that due to the three-year levy which was passed for funding for EMS, patients with no insurance do not get billed for their transport to the hospital. Patients with insurance or Medicare/Medicaid are billed to their coverage entity, but are not billed for any overage the insurance does not cover.

List also discussed the fact that there is no local transport service in Fayette County like in the past, so patients coming from any nursing home here must find alternate return transportation. For example, if a patient is ambulatory and can sit in a car, a family member may be asked to take the patient from the hospital back to the nursing home. If a patient is bed-ridden, a transport ambulance from out of town must be called in to handle the return trip.
