Lady Lion volleyball swept by McClain

GREENFIELD — It was opening night in the Frontier Athletic Conference for volleyball, as the Washington Lady Lions (1-4) traveled to take on the McClain Lady Tigers (2-2).

McClain would win in straight sets at the freshman, j-v and varsity levels to complete the sweep.

In the freshman contest, McClain won 25-10 and 25-8.

At the j-v level, McClain won 25-14 and 25-23.

In varsity action, McClain won 27-25, 25-13 and 25-22.

Washington led 19-11 at one point in the first set, and later led 24-20. Unfortunately, the Lady Lions were unable to finish the set and the Lady Tigers rallied to tie it at 24-24. Washington took a 25-24 lead, but McClain rallied to score three straight points and win the first set 27-25.

Set two was tied 4-4 early, but McClain cruised from that point forward to win the set by a large margin, 25-13.

In set three, Washington led 11-7 and 14-10, but again the Lady Tigers rallied and found themselves ahead 17-15. The Lady Lions bounced back and were ahead 20-18 at one point in the set. McClain tied it at 20-20, and never trailed from that point on as they secured the sweep with the aforementioned 25-22 victory.

Statistically for Washington, Maggi Wall led the team with six aces, followed by Ava Hines with three, Maggie Pfeifer with two and Scotti Quigley and Aysha Haney each with one.

Quigley and Alora Self led in kills with three, followed by Hines with two and Haney, Wall and Peyton Hughes each with one.

Haney led in set assists with six, followed by Anna Tackage with three.

Quigley and Iyanna Brown each had one solo block.

Wall led in digs with 13, followed by Self with nine, Haney with five, Tackage with three and Quigley and Chinatsu Obayashi each with one.

Washington (1-5, 0-1 FAC) will compete again on Thursday at home against Hillsboro (5-0, 1-0 FAC). The Lady Indians defeated Chillicothe (2-3, 0-1 FAC) in five sets on Tuesday.

McClain (3-2, 1-0 FAC) will return to action on Thursday at Jackson (0-5, 0-1 FAC) The Ironladies lost in straight sets at home against Miami Trace (3-0, 1-0 FAC) on Tuesday night.
