Autobots, roll out…to the library!

Whether you’re upgrading your skills, scouting for knowledge and information, or connecting with other heroic readers, a library card is your key to an arsenal of resources. Mine the library’s stacks and databases for new stories and adventures; kickstart your critical thinking skills to defeat the Decepticons of misinformation lurking online. Hitting the road? Use your library card to fuel your mind with books, e-books, and audiobooks.

The American Library Association (ALA) is teaming up with multi-platform entertainment company Skybound Entertainment and leading toy and game company Hasbro to encourage people to roll out to their libraries with the “Transformers” franchise, featuring “Optimus Prime,” as part of Library Card Sign-Up Month in September.

Here at Carnegie Public Library, take a photo with “Optimus Prime” (in truck form) and see our “Transformers” display. Children who sign up for a library card in September will be entered into a drawing to win an “Optimus Prime” toy as well as movie tickets courtesy of Danbarry Cinemas in Chillicothe. Children must be 5-years-old and visit with their parent or guardian to get their library card.

A great way for families with young children to participate at the library is at Storytime! We have different Storytime programs every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Join us with your preschoolers for books, songs, crafts, and socialization at playtime.

Also coming up: Phone Clinic is on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Bring your devices—smartphones, tablets, and laptops—and get personalized assistance. Whether you need help with library apps, troubleshooting issues, or learning basic functions, we’re here to guide you through.

On Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. is a Round Table Talk with Senior Life Solutions. This month’s topic will be about suicide awareness and prevention for older adults. We will discuss how suicide and mental health impacts older adults in rural areas, as well as provide community support resources within Fayette and surrounding counties.

For teens and adults, create a one-of-a-kind journal using paper bags, tissue paper, magazines, stickers, ribbon, and washi tape during Average Art with Averie: Creative Journaling. This event takes place on Friday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. Supplies will be provided!

All programs are free unless otherwise noted. Some programs require registration. For details about the reading challenge or any of the fun programs, please visit us at the library or give us a call at 740-335-2540.
