WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — The Fayette County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday and dealt with a busy agenda.

The new clerk, Chasity Wilson, began her training with Sue Smith, who will be retiring January 2025.

Ron Weade was appointed to the Fayette County Residential Board of Building Appeals, joining Phil Bartley, Mark Heiny, Brent Marshall, and Jason Little.

The bids were opened for the Wilmington Raw Water Intake Pump project, with Fayette County Engineer Jason Little in attendance. There were only two bids, and the potential winning bid was submitted by Moody’s of Dayton, Inc. at a cost of $171,438. The bid packets will be checked and verified and the job will be awarded after review. This project is to help with the Honda plant’s water usage, and to supplement water to Fayette County in the area of Rattlesnake Creek.

The bids were opened for the Subsurface Drainage Project at the County Farm, sponsored by the Fayette County Soil and Water agency, but bid out by the engineer’s office. These bids were for Phase One, Phase Two, and Overall Job, which is a combination of both phases. There were six bids total, five for Phase One, five for Phase Two, then a total was announced for both combined. The bids will be reviewed and the commissioners will make their decision as to whether the job will be each phase or a combined job, based upon funding available. The potential winning bid was submitted by Fleak Brothers Farm Drainage – Donald Fleak. After review, the contract will be awarded.

Fleak’s bid was $142,222.71 for Phase One, under the engineer’s cost estimate of $211,437.00. Fleak’s bid was $135,954.12 for Phase Two, under the engineer’s cost estimate of $222,783.00. The total job bid was $278,176.83, well under the cost estimate of $434,220 for the overall project.

A resolution was passed to designate marriage license fees to the Community Action Peace House.
