FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio — The Washington Court House Fire Department was called to a commercial structure fire Tuesday evening at the Martin’s General Machining building at 1555 State Route 38, next to the Union Township building.

The rear of the building houses the Country Craftsmen Custom Cabinets business run by the local Mennonite community. The front area is where the Mennonite women have their local summer produce from the gardens.

The fire department responded and called for mutual aid from the Bloomingburg Fire Department. Visible fire was found from the floor to the ceiling inside an open dock door at the corner of the building, according to the fire report. The fire progressed into the attic area, and progressing fire/heat damage to the exterior wall.

Everyone got out of the building safely and was accounted for, according to the report.

The investigation determined the fire originated in the rear interior work space from a spark from welding operations. Washington Fire Capt. Jason O’Dierno was the officer in charge of the scene and filed the report.

The building was listed at a value of $50,000 and the damage estimate was listed as $30,000 for the contents. The building is owned by Vaughn Martin.
