Upgrades continue at Fayette Co. Fairgrounds

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — The Fayette County Ag Society recently replaced the old wooden bleachers at the infield of the county fairgrounds with new aluminum bleachers.

Per an interview with fair board members Bob Schwartz, Doug Marine and Tony Penwell, this is another project completed in the master plan for improvements of the fairgrounds.

“We have made improvements to our grandstands, and we now have permanent bleachers in the infield that have doubled our seating capacity,” the board members said. “These new bleachers will seat over 1,000 people comfortably and improve the quality of our venue. These are ADA-compliant for the safety of our patrons that sit on them. There will now be an unobstructed view of the event field. These new bleachers are made of galvanized steel and will require less maintenance of this area. The new bleachers have two sections of 90-foot-long seating and are 12 rows high (180-foot total). These are like what you would find at a high school football field. We have a few items remaining to make this entire project complete. We are working on the lighting and press box or announcer’s booth.”

The Ag Society thanked the following who assisted in the project to this point: Fayette County Commissioners, Fayette Engineers and Building Department, C/T Electric, Mark Payton – M&H Concrete, Ernest Concrete, Nationwide Seating, Sturdisteel Company, Tony’s Welding and Bennett Salvage.

The goal is to have the project 100% complete by early spring 2025.

The bleachers were completed in time for the Smash It Demolition Derby this Saturday, Oct. 19. This is a huge event, and the event start time is 6 p.m. There is a $25 admission fee, 6- to 15-year-olds $10, and 5 and under is free. Gates open at noon that day.
