Farmers Market bids adieu until next season

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, OHIO — So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye/I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye/…The sun has gone to bed and so must I/So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye. (The Sound of Music)

Well, we have reached the end of a wonderful, six month Fayette County Farmers Market season, made special because of our fabulous vendors, volunteers and customers. We still have a fall FCFM member meeting to look forward to, which is always open to the public; at this meeting we will discuss what went well this year and what we might do to make the next season even better, as well as set dates for 2025. As the community of market attendees, if you have ideas for next year, please bring them to our market managers or any board member in person at this last market, or via phone or email after this. We always respect and appreciate community feedback.

“Goodbye” is too strong really. “Adieu” is much more suitable. Because we’ll be back in about six months, around mid-May. Sending appreciation and fond regards to our many friends and patrons.

For the last market of the season, we welcome back David Zinn, the Appalachian Balladeer, who will provide live music. We thank again our much-appreciated sponsor, Fayette County Travel and Tourism, for funding our live music and food tasting events. And our “Community Guest” is OSU Extension (Jennifer Eggleton); stop by the booth for information on Extension AG programs and the County 4-H program. Visitors will also learn about the food-related activities that OSU Extension offers, including food preservation (canning, freezing) and meal preparation.

The Market is open Saturday morning from 8:30 to noon. It is located in the municipal parking lot on the corner of South Main and East East streets. SNAP EBT food benefit cards and credit/debit cards are accepted. Those using the SNAP EBT card for food purchases receive matching dollar “Produce Perks” tokens ($1 for $1) good only for fruits, vegetables, and food producing plants. So,”buy one, get one” for up to $25 every market day. Five dollar coupons will be available again for Fayette County Farm Bureau members at each Saturday market; these can be spent at both the Wednesday and Saturday markets.
