(ALLIANCE, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women’s basketball team beat the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders on the road Saturday afternoon, Jan. 20, 71-59. After holding a five-point lead at the half, the Quakers outscored Mount Union 25-11 in the third quarter and never looked back en route to their win. Wilmington improves to 4-12 overall this season and 2-8 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

Stephanie Altstaetter scored seven of the Quakers 14 points in the first quarter, as they battled to a 14-13 lead after the first period. With the score tied at 20-18 in the second quarter, the Purple Raiders had a chance to get back into the game. However, Wilmington shut them down and used a big 7-1 rally to give themselves a 27-19 lead with 4:22 remaining in the first half. Altstaetter provided five of the seven points during the run for the Quakers. Mount Union outscored Wilmington 12-9 over the final minutes of the half to cut the lead to 36-31 at the break.

The Quakers jumped out to a huge 10-1 run early in the third quarter to extend their lead to 14 at 46-32. The lead would grow to as many as 19 points before the end of the period, as the Quakers held a 61-42 lead heading into the final quarter after a last second Cassidy Lovett jump shot.

The Purple Raiders wouldn’t threaten the lead at all throughout the remaining 10 minutes as the Quakers picked up a solid victory.

Lovett scored a career-high 28 points in the game, besting her previous high of 25 from earlier in the season against John Carroll University (Dec. 16). This is her ninth game this season scoring in double-digits and her third game with 21 or more points. She also contributed 5 rebounds, five assists, and two steals to the teams total.

The Quakers will look to keep their momentum rolling into their next game tonight when they host the Capital University Comets in Hermann Court at 7 p.m.
