Phase two of the reconstruction of the parallel taxiway at the Fayette County Airport is underway.
The taxiway, as previously reported, is the area where vehicles can drive alongside the runway without being worried a plane will land on them. It is also an area that planes can use to travel after landing to keep them from having to drive back down the runway while other planes are needing to land.
At a recent Fayette County Commissioners’ meeting, a proposal was accepted from Butler Fairman & Seufert, out of Indianapolis, for engineering services. Those services are to perform an Independent Fee Estimate (IFE) for the Parallel Taxiway, Phase 2 project at the Fayette County Airport. The estimated cost is $2,000.
A resolution was signed that allows the filing of the FY2022 Application with the FAA for Airport Improvement Program funds to construct the second phase of the Parallel Taxiway. Federal funds being requested are $3,035,330 with a local match of $168,629.25, and the State of Ohio match of $168,629.25 for a total project cost of $3,372,588.50.
There were three bids received for the reconstruction of the second phase of Parallel Taxiway. Those bids were:
– Majors Enterprises out of Monroe for $4,065,725.
– Sunesis Construction out of West Chester for $3,261,038.
– Mark Schaffer Excavating out of Norwalk for $3,199,575.
All three bids were tabled for further review and recommendation by Brandstetter Carroll Architects of the lowest and best bid.
The reconstruction has been a long process as it began in 2019 with phase one — which covered only half of the runway. The other half is now being done in phase two.

In other news from the commissioners’ office, two contracts were recently entered into.
The first contract was with Fillmore Construction out of Leesburg for labor and materials to grade existing stone, install 3-inch asphalt and roll and compact the rear parking lot and driveway at the Fayette County Adult Detention Facility. The estimated cost is $29,876.00.
The second contract was entered into with A&A Safety, Inc. out of Amelia for the Fayette County Raised Pavement Marker Project at a cost of $85,533.25.
