The Fayette Christian School Boys Soccer team finished in 4th place at the state soccer championships of the Buckeye Christian School Organization.
On Friday morning, Oct. 26, the Crusaders defeated Fremont Christian by a 9-1 decision. The Crusaders moved to 9-2 overall with three of their wins this season coming over Fremont.
Spencer Hanusik and Nicholas Epifano had three goals each with Zander Ivey, Michael Miller and Lane Hufford each with one goal. Sam Sheeter had eight saves in the victory.
The win put the Crusaders in the semifinals. The local unit met Cleveland Heritage who beat the Crusaders in the finals last year.
The results were the same as the Patriots ran away from the Crusaders with a 13-5 decision. Spencer Hanusik scored four times and Nicholas Epifano added a late game goal.
The loss put the Crusaders in the Saturday afternoon (Oct. 27) contest for third place facing off against Mentor Christian.
Despite trailing by two goals at least three different times the Crusaders just ran out of time and were defeated, 6-5.
Up 1-0 after a Spencer Hanusik goal about 90 seconds into the contest, Mentor scored three goals in about a two-minutes time span to take a 3-1 lead.
The Crusaders tied it at 3 each by halftime after goals by Hanusik and Epifano.
Mentor put in freshman Jon Abrams to start the second half and he scored two goals to put Mentor back up, 5-3.
The Crusaders made it 5-4 on a goal before Mentor scored with about four minutes left in the game to make it 6-4 before Nicholas Epifano goal with 10 seconds left in the contest to make it 6-5.
Spencer Hanusik, who scored eight goals in the tournament, was voted to the All Tournament team.
The Crusaders soccer team finished 9-4 after a 6-4-2 record in 2017.
The team loses three seniors from there program; Spencer Hansik, Michael Miller and Sam Sheeter.
